Balmain Dreams: 10 OR
More About Balmain Dreams
Once every 100 years, The Balmain Army Gala serves as a marker to the universe of what it means to transcend time, space and the realities of fashion. This exclusive event draws the attention of beings everywhere and is celebrated in the furthest reaches of every galaxy. Join us this centennial as we celebrate the creative mind of Olivier Rousteing and follow him through the creative process behind some of his most iconic looks.
A thematic anthology, this collaboration between Balmain Paris and Z2 Comics contains over a dozen illustrated short stories, each one highlighting a different look from some of Olivier Rousteing’s most celebrated collections from the last ten years. These images depict the many fantasies and dreamscapes that served as Olivier’s inspiration when designing and showcases the many possible worlds that Balmain fashion represents.
Just twenty-five years old when he was named Creative Director in 2011, Olivier Rousteing has successfully grafted an immediately recognizable style upon Balmain.
While relying on the house’s rich archives for inspiration and fully utilizing the atelier’s impressive mastery of intricate, traditional couture techniques, Rousteing has also managed to impose a singular silhouette and contemporary outlook that reflects the way that members of the “Balmain Army”—the young men and women of the designer’s own generation—live their lives. Season after season, runways highlight both the exciting, inclusive diversity of the modern Balmain universe and the importance of 21st-Century culture—in particular, today’s music—in that universe
Celebrating Olivier Rousteing's 10 years as creative director, Balmain Paris and Z2 Comics have come together to create a series of short illustrated stories inspired by some of Olivier’s most iconic looks over the years. Between these pages you will find the celebration of dreams and imagination, a journey through the extraordinary universe that is Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain.
MusicMusic is an integral element of Balmain’s singular style. As Olivier Rousteing explains, “for me, it’s impossible to separate fashion from music. That’s just how my generation grew up—we cannot conceive of one without a full helping of the other.” Balmain’s offerings are always closely linked to music—its melodies inspire Rousteing, its beats push him forward at each step of the creative process, its messages often become key components of collections and Rousteing’s favorite artists are often the focus of campaigns.
Z2 Comics has become the premier global destination for official music-related graphic novels, created in partnership with top-tier artists, influencers, musicians, directors and other pop-culture icons. For A Beautiful Cause
Having collaborated on this project, both Balmain and Z2 Comics will be putting the One-Of-A-Kind book up for auction at the end of the year. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Olivier’s charity of choice, (RED).

(RED) partners with the world’s most iconic brands to develop (RED)-branded products, experiences, and services that, when purchased, trigger contributions to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. These contributions are then invested in HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa.
(RED) has also made great strides this year in helping fund relief in areas affected by Covid-19.
